What’s been occupying my time…

“Well, if we’re so fucking advanced, then what are we doing working here?” - Randal Graves

So I realize I haven’t posted a full post in a long while and by “a while” I mean it feels slightly foreign to even write a post these days. Oh don’t get me wrong, I have been writing in the background and keep notes on some of my longer works, but in the foreground, I’ve been unpleasantly silent, almost dormant. I think it’s far time I at least write an update as to what has been occupying my time. This would be my new life in Austin. It’s been a whirlwind of various things from buying a bed, moving my roommates belongings, doing laundry, working a strange schedule, and other tasks. It’s been a crazy time so far, but I am loving every minute of it. It’s just strange because it feels like this is a new phase of my life, almost as if it just started. It’s not to say I didn’t enjoy my time in Weslaco or Laredo, it just I never felt that I had started my life when I was in Weslaco. It always felt that it was pretty much just more of the same. It was weird when I moved here, I didn’t quite get it. Hell, I’m still getting used to the whole idea of living in Austin and actually living here. I still feel I’m one of my short trips up here and that it’ll all end next week.

And so it goes…

“And I really have enjoyed my stay, but I must be moving on” - Supertramp

Well, there’s really no way of saying this except to say this. I’m moving. I’m going to Austin, Texas. That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less. Before I started writing this, I felt that I would have more to write, more to say. But to be honest, I don’t. It’s strange to be honest. Perhaps in the end, it is something I knew would happen. In any case, even though at times I questioned the whole matter, I’ve enjoyed my time here in the Valley. It’s not that bad of a place to be honest. It has its pros and cons, much like every area of the world. I recommend for all to at least visit. It’s been a trip and well, this shall be all for a while. I’ve got some packing to do, some things to sort out, and some crazy and exciting times ahead. Till then, may good fortunes come to you.

I’m still here

“The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated” - Mark Twain

I realize I haven’t posted a real post in a long while. To be honest, I haven’t really had much to write about. It is not a case of writers block, more so that I’ve been extremely busy. Some new things are happening in my life and once all is set into motion, all will be revealed. But I will say this, this site is not dead. In fact, it’s being redesigned. This site redesign is a long time coming and it will hopefully be down by the end of this month. In any case, I felt it was time I wrote something and not simply leave this site for dead. In any case, I will post a full post this week once certain things have been set into motion. Until then, feel free to look on the sidebar there and check out how my redesign is coming, complete with images. In any case, if anyone wondered out there, all is well.

How I keep track of thoughts

As a writer, I’m always on the look for a good way to keep track of my thoughts and when I get them. My brain is contently day dreaming and coming up with strange ideas that I know if I don’t write them at that moment, I will lose it. So, how I do it? It all depends on where I am.

On the computer side or when I’m out and about, I’ve been using Evernote theses days. It’s a great program to write notes on and keep track of stray thoughts. Plus, since it saves to the web, I can access it from anywhere, even my iPhone. It’s been an valuable little app and I’m so glad I signed up for it. Well worth a try if you’re in need of an application just to jot down thoughts.

If I’m at home and not near a comp, I turn to my trusty notebook. Though it sits by my bedside, it helps at those stray moment of the night to quickly write down an idea, thought, or simply a quote for a character in a story. As I tend to have ideas at the strangest moments, I’ve learned to be prepared.

I know this post was short, so as a bonus, I’m making my short story ideas public. Check out what strange thoughts go through my head at http://www.evernote.com/pub/vincent404/story-ideas. Check it out.

Quick Plug

Tonight’s posts are simply going to be a couple of plugs. First off, I have a new blog I am part of. For me, I’m looking at it as a tech blog where I think most of my tech article will be. If you’re interested in reading what my friends and I have to say on Tech, check out the Moon-cast blog. If you are familiar with my old podcast, some of the writers will seem familiar. I should have an Entrecard for the blog up as soon as the rest of the other writers are on board.

As for the second plug, one of my short stories was sent to a contest a while back. It is almost over, but the winners have yet to be announced. In any case, my short work is up at Bebo Author. Feel free to comment, read, and state whatever you wish. Any comment will be read and accepted as such, so please try to be constructive.

That is all for now. I should have a better post this week.

Work Ethic

One of my professors always said the thing he gained from college was how to study. What I gained from my college years was my work ethic. Most of my friends are aware of this, but if it’s not apparent, I procrastinate. I’m what some may classify as a slacker. I can’t name the numerous times that because of this, I not only had numerous papers stack up, but was probably late on more things that I would like to admit. I can’t name the amount of times that I was up at two in the morning finishing three papers, fooling myself that if I cycled through each of the papers that I could keep any energy I had at a level that I could at least get the papers in a state that I would be proud of before collapsing for the measly four hours before waking up only to skip the class to finish the paper for that class. Some would call it simple procrastination, but it would become more for me.
