It’s all flukes to me

“Machines aren’t capable of evil. Humans make them that way.” - Lucca (Chrono Trigger)

There aren’t many games I give a replays to for just the sake of playing. Chrono Trigger happens to be one of them and not simply for the other endings. I still think it was one of Square’s strongest games ever made. Well worth a play if you have yet to play it. Sometime this week, I’m going to give my parents a link to my site here, heck I doubt they even know that their son has this sort of presence on the intarnets. Nor do I think they know I’m still writing as much, in fact actually more, than I did during my college days. In fact, I think it is safe to say that with my daily posts that I am getting into the habit of simply writing on a daily basis. I believe that by deciding to do content each day it has made my time here richer and fuller. In any case, I’m not sure what to write here today. It’s somewhat of a strange posting day. But I must press on.

I’ve been posting these last couple of entries within the BlogDesk program and I think I have started to love it. I still have yet to use the quick notes or any of the Technorati tags, but I will be entering those soon enough. Also with that, I’ll be linking my picasa account here, showing off my fabled pictures from my France adventure this past Spring. In any case, this post is turning more into an update post and less into something professional. This may be due to the fact that I have been in a semi reflective mood after my “journey” trying to find something to do today

Along the way I stumbled upon UT Pan-am, a university I had yet to me, when it had finally hit me what has been bothering me this entire time here. I’m essentially in an alternate Laredo, or more importantly Laredo if it has evolved differently. So I haven’t really moved beyond. But as I am in the exact same place, give or take a couple of things, I realize the one thing missing is my friends. At this point , some may ask why is it I don’t try and find new friends. The odd thing is that I can’t. I think that the problem is that I don’t have that original luck I had at TAMIU. If I really trace it all, it was a fluke that I bumped into who I bumped into. I’ll tell probably the most random fluke, one that even I don’t know how the hell it happened, but I’ll talk about how I met my friend Brenda. To this day, I have no idea how truly happened.

To set up this story, I’m going to explain why it is I find this weird and this too evolves a story. At my college campus, there are four main buildings, with a middle court yard area, called commonly as “the green.” At each of the buildings, there are benches where student congregate, talk about class, and “smoke em if they got em.” I was a common figure at these benches since pretty much day one, along with my group of friends. If it’s not apparent from my posts here, I can talk about strange stories and theories. I won’t go into them, as they are not really important to the story. But as such, I tend to talk about these concepts around the benches.

As I sat there over a couple weeks, I notices this girl over in the corner. She had dark skin, long dark hair, and glasses. To be honest, when I first saw her, I thought she was extremely cute. I would randomly see her there, looking at her read her book, fully into her studies. One would think I’d have the guts to talk to this girl with the amount of times I had saw her, but alas, I’m a fucking coward. So I never talked with her, but, as much things, she fell into the back thread of my brain. Keep in mind this was during my junior year of college, well before I would meet her.

If I really think about it, none of what would happen If I did not take Shakespeare that fateful semester. During that class, we were required to perform a sample of dialogue from out choice of play. Another girl, ironic that she went by the name of Brenda, was in my group. At the time, she was dating a very protective boyfriend and certain things arose from that, but I won’t go into that , as that is another separate story. One day, I’ll get her half fully recorded and we can all laugh together. Anyway, I would later see her in future classes.

Now you may think Brenda from Shakespeare would be the connection to that girl on the benches, but it is but one small part. Again, fluke occurrence happen in my life at strange times. In any case, another one of my good friends was performing at a local coffee bar and had invited me to watch him. I did and ended up meeting another person by the name of Luis. We all chatted and at the time I didn’t put much thought into the conversation. I tend to meet a lot of people in my life and sometimes, it’s just passing.

In wasn’t until about a week later I would see Luis again, there by meeting yet another component to this story, my friend Emily, who I still thank for picking me up a copy of the latest Dragon Ash CD. Anyway, we all chatted at lunch and it turned out she was Brenda’s (from Shakespeare) best friend and the next time I saw her, I saw Brenda as well.

Now most stories should stop by now, but this one kept going. Apparently word got out about me and as it turns out, the Brenda from class was friends with the girl from the benches. They had apparently said stuff about this “Robert” kid and talked about me in a good light. I would later meet the girl from the benches and as I saw her face, the back thread kicked in and reminded me of where I knew this girl from. This story would end here, as I have told you where I met my good friend Brenda, but it that’s not the strange fact. The strange fact is how important I became in her life as she has in mine, in the sense that she has gone on record saying that she can’t remember when we weren’t friends, which honestly we’ve only known each other under a year or such. I guess the strange fluke is that even at my last year, everything came full circle.

Anyway, that’s the story on how I met the girl on the benches. Tune in next Thursday when I tell the fluke on how I found my current d20 group, which once again, brought everything full circle.
