Fiction writing

Since I am going to enter Claire’s short story contest, I felt it was time to re-look at how I write and see if I can find a better. These days, I tend to write sporadically and non-linear, capturing whatever comes from my mind when it comes from my mind. With this in mind, I am trying out PageFour, a word processor made specifically for fiction writers. Even though I have only lightly touched it, I love it. It feels entirely different, allowing me to organize my sporadic thoughts within folder structures and pages, allowing my mind to keep thinking the way it is. Even though it is currently in demo mode, if by the end of the week I’m still in love with it, I will make a purchase. Possibly within the week, I’ll write a full review of the product, but so far, I am recommending it. I know tonight’s post is shorter than expected, but I am some what written out. The first draft of the short story should be done by this week and I will share it with everyone here. The basic concept actually comes from a bigger concept that I hope to write soon. What Radical Dreamer’s did for Chrono Cross is what I hope my short story shall do for mine.

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while now and at various times, and in various forms and workings, tried to get the work onto paper. In some regards, it’s a large fan fiction project, but for the most part, it just exists in the universe. It’s sort of my tribute to Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, making my own story revolving around space and time, two of my favorite mechanics in story telling. But, before I write this large project that is roughly planned in my head, I felt it was best to start off small and make an introduction adventure, much in the same vein as Radical Dreamers. This is where my short story will fit, introducing characters in a similar fashion. What will probably the most challenging aspect will be to keep the story not only in depth and extremely vivid, but to do so in 1200 words, as the minimum is  1000 word for the contest, I figure at least 200 over wouldn’t be too bad. It should be interesting how the first draft turns out when the work is complete. Even if it doesn’t bode well with the judges, It will give the inspiration to get back into the writing scene and to start on this work and many others. In any case, we shall see how the others in the contest do and where I stand among them.

  2. I forgot to mention, on RiffTrax.com, if you like writing contests, they have a writing contest. All to make fun of movies. You should check it out… if you still like MST3k.
