It’s amazing what you can do with your muse…

“Tomorrow may be hell, but today was a good writing day, and on the good writing days nothing else matters,” - Neil Gaiman
I know I haven’t blogged in a while, but I have been racking my head trying to write this short story for the short story competition on Bebo Author. Originally, I figured I would start off with a small project that would force me to lead into one of my larger planned projects, but it just wouldn’t come out the way I wanted, perhaps thinking of a different medium for that. So , I then contemplated writing something bit closer to home and it occurred to me the topic over this weekend. I started off writing about it with a certain approach, trying to work in a conversation a friend and mine had on it, using that as starting point. But that didn’t work out. And then it hit me… I was writing without a muse.
One thing I can’t write without is a muse. Music is usually in the background and it helps me dearly organize my thoughts, but it needs to be the right jam for the moment. Tonight’s music that provided me with my 1136 word first draft was Groove Salad off of SomaFM. If you have yet to check this out, I would do so right now. If they would make an iPhone/EDGE stream, this would be on my iPhone as long as my signal would hold out. It is one of the better Internet radio stations out there, perfect for writing, reading, and any other activity you can think of. I’ll probably end up playing this in the background of my next gathering and supporting them in the coming days. If you’re looking for something to get those creative juices flowing, check it out.
I’m very glad where I am in the story and pleased with my first draft, I will revise the story later on this week and submit it next week. Tonight was a great night for writing and I pleased with the results. Sometime this week, I will give my review of Pagefour and where I stand on it. Till then, may you find your muse that provides you with the fuel needed to write your greatest tales.
