Serenity at Night

Tags: , , , ,

It’s a brand new week, filled with sights, sound, and writing. This week is looking like it will be a pretty full week of writing, with a post a day. It should be interesting as to what will emerge during the week. It’s all leading to become the new format for posting and it should definitely help me get right back into a regular writing schedule.

Today, I’m going to open up with a little bit of free form poetry. This little thought was written during my flight from DFW to ORD. As the flight was at night, I had the unique opportunity to look at the landscape at night in a way that I had not done. It is also interesting to note that when we arrived in Chicago, we flew through a lightening storm and was the first time I was ever surrounded by pure bolts of electricity, Enjoy.

From the air, the roads were rivers of light,
Flowing wayward travelers like leafs adrift.
It’s kind of beautiful from up here.

All these civilized lights look perfect.

It is comforting to see this site.
I’ve always felt that the feint glow
of electric light was serenity.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact
that I came into this world during
these late hour or perhaps it has to
do with the fact that some of my best
thoughts, memories, and performance
are creations of the night.

Whatever the case, it is
something that I find extreme peace.
And the subtle glows of blue, yellow, and white
bring the night landscape a life it not present during the day.
It is at moments like this that everything makes sense
and everything that was cloudy and uncertain before
has such a clarity that only the night sky can bring.
It is so clear upon this steel bird.

There was an end part to this poem that is not posted as it was an uncompleted thought. It was my interpretation of the flying through the storm. In the end, I’m not too impressed with that portion. Though this may not be the best thing I have written, it was what was running through my mind that night. In any case, I hope you enjoyed. Till tomorrow, may you find serenity in the night.
