J is for January (and CES)

Hello everyone. I realize I haven’t posted in a while, but bear with me as I’m in the processes of organizing my work area at my apartment and getting everything set up to be a more productive writer in all aspect of writing, including the blog here. Right now, I’m watching a ton of live coverage from CES as not only is CNET doing live content, but Revision3 and TWiT. Its a bit crazy splitting my eyes on each network so that I don’t miss a thing. It’s extremely informative and with the help of the three networks, I’m not missing a thing.

As stated before, I’ve redone my workspace at my apartment to not only have more space, but to use my new birthday gift to its fullest – the 27inch i7 iMac. It’s crazy that I got it and I’m loving it. I’ve almost got down how I’m going to use the Mac in conjunction with my laptop here to make my mobile writing sync with my home writing. I’m going to do some tests to even determine if I’ll even keep Windows on this laptop, which I think will be the case.

This year is also going to be a year of learning. Though not with this post, I’m trying to get into the habit of typing in markdown. It is all part of my “less formatting, more writing” style I want to get into where out of habit I just start typing and not worry about what the hell it will look like in the editor. I want to write with less fussing with the look and just know that when I put “*” around a word, it will bold it regardless of where the content is. That and also eliminate the concept of any quick keys. That will probably take a long while to get down, but it should help speed things up on the writing front.

It’s going to an exciting year for me and I’m going to try and make some posts on here be more visual and do some sort of video update on a weekly or so basis. Not quite sure on that, but I’ll worry about that later. Just know that this is hopefully the year I get stuff done.

New Host

Two major changes in a row. If you’re seeing this, you should not only see a new design, but I should be on my new host of Squarespace. In the end of all my design revision, I realized I’m kind of tired of coding and designing and should get back to writing and such. There might be some other moves in the coming months, such as a domain transfer, but if that happens, it will only be momentary. In case, enjoy my new host. As since the move, though the comments did make the transfer fine, the disqus setup did not. The guys at disqus were very helpful and would be able to remap each comment, but it is too much of a hassle to worry about it. I sill have the comments and if you want to post the exact same thing, feel free to. But for now, its probably time for a reset anyways. Enjoy the new host and from here on out, we have ways to get all the data out.

New name

Well folks, after much thought and debate, I’ve renamed the blog to simply Rvillegas.org. I’m going to try and spin off the Memoir’s title someday, but for now, the blog will simply be the URL. Perhaps there will be a section of this site with that name with either actual memoirs or simply fiction, but for now, it is time to change. Also, the header image has changed to reflect this, as I was never really a fan of Ariel as a font, so I chose to “8-bit” it up. Enjoy.

Updates Ahoy!

You may have noticed the new theme and look to the site, along with a new comment system. This is all in preparation to actually post more to this site and try to tie into the main site the other areas I post and create work in. So, stayed tuned as this site gets a complete overhaul.

So My Online Doppelgänger is French

Just a quick one for right now. After listening to the latest Net@Night episode, I found out about a site called namechk. It’s a website that lets you search a name over multiple social networks to see if the name is free. While searching which social networks I’m part of, I found my online doppelgänger – and he’s French and, for the most part, seems to be the polar opposite of my postings. So, if you’re interested in the ongoings of a citizen of France who happens to love Rap, check it out at http://vincent404.skyrock.com/.

Political Ramblings

“Shades of grey wherever I go
The more I find out the less that I know
Black and white is how it should be
But shades of grey are the colors I see” – Billy Joel

I’ve been recently thinking about  my political alignment. For years, I’ve considered myself a liberal democrat, one ready to fight for pretty much any cause and vote right off the bat for any democratic candidate, regardless of who. Now, before I go into my ramblings of my introspection, I will state I voted for Obama in the recent US election. I’m not going to go into my reasons, as that would be another ramble, but mainly to just set the stage of this post. It wasn’t until recently that I even thought of myself politically. It’s amazing what time does to a person…

Why I Hate Arrogance

“Boasting is not courage. He who boasts much cannot do much. Much gesticulation does not prove courage.”

This might be the earliest post I have made, but I’m trying to get back into the habit of writing more and my mornings are one of the few times I have the ability to concentrate on this. Today’s post may be a bit more of a rant than my other posts, but to be honest I woke up in an angry mood today and I need some sort of outlet before I greet the day. This morning I finally figured out what character trait I hate and loathe over ever other trait: arrogance.

Running D20 Modern

“Gamemastering involves writing, planning, acting, refereeing, arbitrating and facilitating, When you’re the Gamemaster, you’re the guiding force of the game” – D20 Modern Core Rulebook

Writing in general is a daunting task in it’s own right. Keeping track of characters, the universe that is created, and the plot can be a task even a seasoned writer may find crazy. For the most part, I can handle this element very easily with no trouble, even to the point where my characters react to things differently. But what if you threw real people as your characters, each bringing their notion of the story and what to do?  This is the world my new cyberpunk story exists.

Quick Update

Just a quick update. I just set up a stub page for my projects. After looking all over for a way to track the progress of my projects online, I realized that it was best done here on the site on a page. I’ll tweak it more this weekend. In any case, it’s a first step in tracking the progress for all the things I need to complete.
